Protecting box, v-grate and side entry drains from sediment runoff is an ongoing challenge for any worksite. What if there was a silt sock alternative that prevented flooding whilst trapping silt and hydrocarbons? An innovative solution does exist and its taking the Civil Construction industry by storm – Introducing the GuardDog drain filter.
A Tough & Effective Drain Filter
The GuardDog is a low-profile drain protection cover that filters contaminated stormwater runoff. The secret to the GuardDog’s unique filtration abilities is Spilltration Husky absorbent media. With no added chemicals and made from 100% recycled post-consumer and industrial waste, these absorbents effectively trap hydrocarbons and sediment, with a minimum particle size of 53 microns (.053mm). Each GuardDog drain filter can absorb up to 12 litres of hydrocarbons, releasing clean water. This drain guard is made using heavy duty plastic mesh, capable of being driven over by heavy trucks and machinery. Unlike coir logs and silt socks, the GuardDog will not split when compressed.
The GuardDog is the only line of defence you’ll need for your worksite, protecting waterways as contaminated stormwater passes through it. Paint, diesel, sand, concrete – nothing will get past the GuardDog.
Low Maintenance, Easy Install

GuardDog Side Entry Drain Filter SPL090A
Install the GuardDog to drain and gutter systems in minutes via:
- Concrete screws or DynaBolts – Drill holes in the pavement to secure the Guard Dog in place. Use washers above the eyelets for added security.
- Metal or cable ties – Thread through gutter drainage grates and eyelets to secure.
If easy drain access is required, the Guard Dog can also be gutter mounted with bolts or ties on one side, and secured with a sandbag on the kerb.
Side-entry GuardDogs feature aluminium strips for a perfect fit on kerbside drainage systems – simply mould to the gutter contour and then mount in place. Cleaning the GuardDog is easy too, just brush away any leaves or debris that builds up during use. These kerbside drain sediment traps are also street sweeper compatible and can be reused for other work sites.
A Custom Fit, with Sizing to Suit You
GuardDog drain filters come in two variants to fit most drains; standard (1000 x 810mm) or side-entry (1220 x 810mm & 1500 x 810mm). The GuardDog features an overflow port, with mesh that can be cut out to prevent flooding in heavy rain. Of course not every drain is the same, so custom-sized GuardDogs are also available to suit your requirements. Last but not least, they’re made right here in Australia, so you can get a GuardDog onsite quickly to protect your drains and waterways.
